Story 36: The Woman at the Well

Bible Reading: John 4:1–42

Living Water

One hot day, Jesus stopped to rest beside a well in a town called Sychar. His disciples had gone into the village to buy food.

Soon, a woman came to the well to draw water.

Jesus smiled and asked, “Will you give me a drink?”

The woman was surprised. In those days, many people thought Jews and Samaritans should not speak to one another. But Jesus treated her with kindness and respect.

Jesus said, “If you knew God’s gift, you would ask me for living water.”

The woman looked at the well and wondered what Jesus meant.

Jesus explained that the water from the well could satisfy thirst for a little while, but God’s love is like living water that refreshes our hearts and gives new life.

As they talked, the woman realized that Jesus knew her well and loved her anyway.

She hurried back to her town and told everyone,

“Come and see a man who told me everything about my life! Could he be the Messiah?”

Many people came to meet Jesus for themselves.

They listened to his teaching and discovered God’s love.

Because one woman shared her joyful story, many others found hope.

What Can We Learn?

Jesus welcomes everyone with love. He breaks down walls that divide people and offers hope, friendship, and new life to all. God’s love is for everyone.
