Story 9: The Burning Bush

Bible Reading: Exodus 3:1–4:17

God Calls Moses

Moses had grown up and was now living in the land of Midian. Every day he cared for sheep, leading them through hills and valleys to find fresh grass and water.

One day, Moses saw something amazing.

A bush was on fire—but it was not burning up!

Curious, Moses walked closer.

Then he heard a voice.

“Moses! Moses!”

“Here I am,” Moses answered.

God said, “Do not come any closer. Take off your sandals, because you are standing on holy ground.”

Moses removed his sandals with great respect.

God told Moses, “I have seen how My people are suffering in Egypt. I have heard their cries, and I want to set them free. I am sending you to speak to Pharaoh.”

Moses was surprised.

“But what if I’m not brave enough?” he asked.

“What if people don’t believe me?”

“What if I don’t know what to say?”

God answered each of Moses’ worries with love.

“I will be with you.”

God gave Moses signs to show that God had truly sent him. God also promised that Moses’ brother Aaron would help him speak.

Moses learned that God does not expect people to be perfect. God simply asks willing hearts that are ready to trust.

So Moses took his staff and began the journey back to Egypt, knowing that God would walk beside him every step of the way.

What Can We Learn?

Sometimes God calls ordinary people to do extraordinary things. We may feel scared or unsure, but God promises to be with us and gives us the help we need.

If you see someone who is being treated unfairly or left out, be brave and stand beside them. Small acts of courage can make a big difference.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank You for being with us when we are afraid. Help us listen for Your voice, trust Your guidance, and be brave enough to do what is right.

Amen.
