Bible Reading: Luke 10:38–42

Listening to Jesus

One day, Jesus visited the home of two sisters named Mary and Martha.

Martha was busy getting everything ready. She cooked, cleaned, and worked hard to make her guests feel welcome.

Mary chose something different.

She sat near Jesus and listened carefully as he taught about God’s love.

After a while, Martha became frustrated.

“Lord,” she said, “I’m doing all the work by myself! Please tell Mary to help me.”

Jesus looked at Martha with kindness.

“Martha, Martha,” he said gently, “you are worried about many things. But Mary has chosen what is most important.”

Jesus was not saying that helping others is unimportant. Martha’s work was loving and valuable.

He was reminding Martha—and all of us—that we also need time to be still, listen to God, and rest in God’s love.

There is a time for serving and a time for listening.

When we make room for both, our hearts grow stronger.

What Can We Learn?

God invites us to serve others with love, but also to slow down and spend time in prayer, listening, and rest. A peaceful heart helps us love others even better.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank You for reminding us to slow down and spend time with You. Help us balance serving others with taking time to pray, listen, and rest in Your love.
