Story 1: God Creates a Beautiful World

Bible Reading: Genesis 1:1–2:3

God’s Beautiful Beginning

In the beginning, there was only darkness. Then God spoke.

“Let there be light!”

And light filled everything. God smiled because the light was good.

On the next days, God made the blue sky, the oceans, and the dry land. Flowers bloomed, trees stretched toward the sky, and grass covered the hills.

Then God filled the world with wonderful living things. Fish splashed in the seas. Birds soared through the air. Animals ran, hopped, crawled, and played across the land.

Finally, God created people in God’s image. God gave them a special job: to care for the earth and all the creatures who lived on it.

God looked at everything that had been made—the mountains, rivers, forests, animals, and people—and said,

“This is very good.”

On the seventh day, God rested. God enjoyed the beauty of creation and invited people to rest, too.

From the very beginning, God filled the world with love, beauty, and hope. Every person and every creature is part of God’s wonderful creation.

What Can We Learn?

God made a beautiful world and calls us to care for it. Every person matters, every animal matters, and creation is a gift to be treasured.

Love Like Francis and Clare

Today, thank God for something beautiful outside. Water a plant, feed a bird, recycle, or pick up a piece of litter to help care for God’s world.

Prayer

Dear God,

Thank You for making such a beautiful world. Help us care for the earth, love one another, and remember that all creation is Your gift.

Amen.
