A Transgender Nun’s EDC

Hey everyone, I’m Sister Abigail Hester — and today we’re talking EDC.
Everyday Carry.
Now, everybody has an EDC whether they realize it or not.
Phone. Keys. Wallet. Maybe a pocketknife if you’re spicy.
But I carry a little more.
Because my life happens outdoors and in the inner city. Ministry doesn’t stay in one lane. Neither do I.
My backpack is set up to help me hit the day running — not for a zombie apocalypse (we’re not doing The Walking Dead), but for real-life “what if” situations.
Flat tire.
Long walk.
Someone needs help.
Blood sugar crash.
Weather shifts.
Memory hiccup.
Unexpected long day.
Prepared, not paranoid.
Like the Scouts say — be prepared. And honestly? That’s just good theology and good street sense.
Now full transparency — there were a few things sitting on the table that didn’t make it into the video:

  • Water bottle
  • Diapers (yes, real life is real life)
  • Spork
  • And a few other odds and ends
Because preparedness is holistic. Hydration, hygiene, fuel — not glamorous, just smart.
For me, EDC isn’t tactical cosplay.
    It’s stewardship.
It’s about caring for my body, being ready to serve, and staying steady in unpredictable spaces.
So I want to hear from you:
What do you carry every day?
What’s in your bag, your pockets, your glove box?
And what do you think I should add to mine?
Drop it in the comments — I’m always refining the kit.
    Because preparedness isn’t fear.
    It’s freedom.
And freedom travels light… but not unprepared.
    Now let’s compare notes.
